Pick Totals / Update for Week 8

Unfortunately, more people picked the Lions on purpose this week. They were rewarded by football's only franchise to produce an 0-16 season taking a major step toward preserving that distinction.

Colorful. And ultimately, good reason to pucker. A week after picking Carolina inflicted the most damage on the pool, picking against Carolina proved even more damaging.

"I've made all popular picks and yet no one has made all the same as me." [Chicago] --Gheen (no losses)

Whether it's the bandwagon or the "Gheen-wagon," this has been the year to stay on it. This is no time to rebel against the popularity contest.

In other news...

I started this pool 10 years ago so a few dozen of my friends and I could have fun betting on football. Obviously, it has grown much larger than that original purpose. But if you miss a deadline or repeat a pick, please don't take it out on me, especially if I have never met you. I really don't need to sit in front of my computer for hours a week putting all this together and receive an email telling me what I do is lame. If you don't like the early deadline, or if you don't like the 1984-style webpage, please get out of this pool and go run your own.

And as far as "beating somebody who isn't officially signed up" is concerned, I don't even really know what that means. But if that "somebody" is a reference to me, I am signed up. My name is on the board and my picks are on the board just like everybody else's. Calling my website rinky-dink is hurtful to me because of all the time and effort I put into running the pool, but calling me a cheater is way out of line.
