NYGiants --"First pick of a 13-in-a-row streak." --Smith~S
(RIP)
You have to be more specific what type of streak you are
starting.
Kansas City --"The Giants are going down this week!" --Douglas
(RIP)
And so they did. The Giants went down this week. And that was a major blow
to the Ducey Pool. But the under-card was nearly as impressive. Six out of
the seven morning games resulted in losses. The Panthers, Chiefs, Lions, Dolphins,
Cowboys, and Jets all gave Ducey-Poolers something to cry about.
And when the dust cleared, and the bandwagon lay in shambles in the dirt,
3 out of every 4 picks was a loser this week. That meant nearly 200 people
took a loss, and 104 of them were season-ending. We have crossed the threshold
this week. For the first time, there are more players eliminated than active.
And not just 51% to 48%. This was a major overhaul. Nearly two-thirds of the
original contestants have only 2005 to look forward to. And the season is barely half
over.
So what? Five-losses-each next year? Will the pool even make it to the Superbowl?
It has never finished before the final playoff gun has sounded. And maybe the five remaining
leaders are truly gifted. They have made it this far. Can they maintain their
monster advantage?
Current standings...
00 LOSS -- 5 Hines Ward's "T.O. Wing Flap"
01 LOSS -- 42 T.O.'s "Ray Lewis Entrance Dance"
02 LOSS -- 110 wide-receivers signaling first down, though they just got pummeled
03 LOSS -- 308 Double-murder victims
The leaders' picks will NOT post until after the picking
deadline. Sorry to surprise those who have not participated in the pool before,
but that is the practice when we reach a point in the season where knowledge-of-other-people's-picks
could matter
