[Z&R logo] Day 3 -- Friday June 20

Today would be the first time we would hear Rusty sepak. The defining moment. The character foundation. Everything else would flow from what I did today. The scene had to be precise, well-thought-out, the motivations, the characterizations, the histories all fleshed out. Today would set the tone for all the days to come. I had to be ready.

I awoke at 9:00am for a 10:15 pick-up. I asked the driver, John, to stop at the production office on the way over to the set but he said he wasn't sure we had time. So we went to the trailers. Once there, at about 10:30am, I asked the 2nd 2nd A.D., Kelly, if I could run over to the production office. He said they might need us soon, so sit tight. I sat tight until 4:30pm when they finally were ready to start our scene.

We worked for about 3 1/2 hours with Debbie Reynolds and Kathy Najimy and Brittany Murphy and us boys running around the funeral parlor, acting our little hearts out. And although we didn't quite finish up all the different angles and shots, we did get our first taste of Rusty, our look into his soul, his very being. It is now forever captured on film, ready to be shown in all its glory. The birth of Rusty! All America, listen up! It's Rusty talkin' gosh darn it, it's Rusty wondering, questioning, asking of Reba, "Recognize these suits?" (Scene 16)
