Day 1 -- Tuesday December 2
Yes, we pick up this story at the callback. The announcement was made that John and Mataya should stay while the others were sent sadly away. Tough way to do it, but I guess it's better than keeping your hopes up longer than they should be.
We walked over to the set and met a couple of people. Then within twenty minutes we were on the stage doing the scene. Only two hours earlier I was unemployed. Now there I was taking notes in my script, running the scene for the director, yukking it up for an eventual national audience. Weird.
The first scene had already been trimmed. The banter between my character and the lead was toned down. Still had a couple of laugh lines tucked in there, though. The second scene had only lost one line for my character, but it essentially took me completely out of the scene. It has a funny ending now, though, so that line has gone the way of the dodo.
The other people in my scene include Mataya as my ex-cheerleader girlfriend and two series regulars, Ken and Jennica. They were both very nice and funny and it was a great time. I even returned late from lunch because I didn't plan for parking time and no one yelled at me. There's a switch. Never fear, I'm sure I can get someone fed up with me before the week is over.
After our rehearsals I hung out in my trailer for a couple hours. Then we ran the show for the producers and writers. They laughed a lot. If only the American viewing public appreciated the show as much as the creators of it, they'd have a breakout hit on their hands. My scene went very well and there was talk of adding the confrontational lines back in! No need getting any sort of hopes up, though. There are still many rehearsals ahead and the whole Craig story is the "B-story" of this episode, so time constraints could be a factor, too. (And, of course, if they fire me for being late, no lines.) But Day 1 was a good one. I had fun.
