Well, the upward trend in civility and comfort has continued on the show. Today was camera blocking so the rehearsals were a little less stressful. Also, everyone is getting to know each other a little better and I think some of the defenses are coming down. Glenne brought her baby to the set and we met him. Joan asked a bunch of us how Americans say a certain expression. Maybe the agony of the last couple of days has actually brought everyone closer together. (Or maybe this was the calm before the real storm of tomorrow night's taping.)
I had a fun time again. Kim, Sarah, Trevor, and I spent most of the day hanging out doing nothing. Trevor is the 17 year-old "discovered" in Minnesota and plopped into one of the most high-profile new shows of the season. He's in for quite an adventure. Luckily for him he appears to be quite mature and level-headed as well as being a nice kid with a good sense of humor. Will that be enough to withstand the media attention and the Tiger Beat articles and the adoring fans? Time will tell.
The day peaked today at the end of the producers' run-through. The climactic scene in the show is Nathan Lane promising to just be "Ordinary Joe" from now on and ends with him saying, "Please hand me a revolver." He and I had been talking about how long it feels like we've been rehearsing these same scenes and how that closing line was taking on more and more true-life meaning as the days wore on. When he got to it at the end of the day today, the gloves came off. It was way too hot on the soundstage and everyone was tired and as he screamed his way through the last monologue and then yanked his hair nearly out on the last line, everyone erupted in fits of laughter. It has been a long journey. Tomorrow shall be a relief for many and hopefully a positive first step toward a successful season.
