Day 3 -- Friday July 31

And then there were four.

It was not a happy bowl of oatmeal and glass of orange juice that I partook of this morning as a leafed through the first few pages of the latest Conrad Bloom script that arrived on my doorstep at some point in the night. Four lines are all that remain of the once prolific funeral director. He has been squeezed to the limit. His entire discussion of the tombstone's errors has been wiped from the slate. We now join that conversation midstream and catch a couple of conciliatory remarks. Then with a painful joke, the funeral director walks off into the dying sun.

The good side? Everyone's very nice. It's hard to stay too grumpy during the day because it is such a fun set to be on. The ladies continue to be a joy to relax with (and believe me, I have lots of time to relax), and the executive producer, Marco Pennette, pulled me aside today and assured me that the part was not getting sliced because of anything I was doing and that they were very happy with my contributions. It was simply a matter of making the scene work, which is apparent now that the scene does work quite well without me in too much of it. Them's the breaks, I guess. And Gilda Stratton, the casting director, was also supportive when I saw her at the run-through and reiterated that everyone was happy with what I was doing. So friendliness abounds, even though lines don't.
