1999 Football Pool Weekly Update

Week Nine

"So as I lay in bed, wide awake, at 2:10am I pondered the value of 'one point' in today's society. To some, one point might be the difference between being an A student, and being an A - student. To others, one point may mean paying $900 a year for car insurance, and paying $1700 a year. For me, one point meant the end of my 1999 football dreams. It meant the end of the thrill of the chase in the Ducey 1999 Football Pool. My Quest for Excellent was squashed this past weekend by a mere one-point differential. Thanks for the memories." --Patty Cook (RIP)

"How far can the Packers go? As Favre as Brett can take them. Packers in a laugher." --Chris LaRose (RIP)

It was a laugher all right, but somewhere Walter Payton was having the last laugh. The Green Bay Packers continue to disappoint. Over the last two weekends they have been responsible for all sorts of carnage. What has happened to the man and his thumb?

"My football pick: Liverpool over Manchester United. As for my pick in your 'tackleball' pool: Seattle over Cincinnati (If I go down, it'll be with everyone else)" --Greg Rice

"HAPPY! HAPPY! HAPPY! GIVE ME SEATTLE!!" --Frank Young

And there was one pick that made a lot of people happy this weekend. The Seattle Seahawks delivered with ease defeating the hapless Bungles and gave many folks a ride into Week Ten.

Statistically speaking, this week 17 players made incorrect picks. Oddly enough, 16 of those 17 were also eliminated. So the bottleneck for first remains. Remember these souls who have left us too soon: Ball, Benedict, Patty Cook, John Dickshot, Flynn, Forte, Guy, Joe, Katz, Glenn Kessler, LaRose, Mulcahy, Sheron, Shea, Whealy, and Philip Young. 66 contestants remain. The standings are...
00 LOSS -- 00 SENIORS
01 LOSS -- 21 JUNIORS
02 LOSS -- 45 FRESHMEN
03 LOSS -- 74 DROPOUTS

"C'mon! One more chance! I need that money!" --Rob Benedict (RIP)

That's something for the winner to remember. Rob NEEDS the money. So you may want to consider just giving it to him after you win. I mean, he obviously really needs it. He did say 'C'mon' and all. And he is certainly NOT getting one more chance.

I expect 66 Week Ten picks by Saturday at dawn. This weekend I will be out of town again so I can only guarantee 'got its' and web posting if your pick is in by Thursday night. So glance at that schedule now.

Also bear in mind as the holidays approach that only Sunday and Monday games can be chosen. Thanksgiving Day games are for amusement purposes only.

Good luck.
