2001 Football Pool Weekly Update

Week Twelve

"As we go into the Thanksgiving weekend I feel it is appropriate to pick a team that is playing a bird. Preferably a Turkey. While there is no exact match, the Cardinals are close. SAN DIEGO." --Clark (RIP)

"Tell me how I can actually pick SAN DIEGO this week, sitting on two losses, and NOT feel like Christopher Walken putting the gun to my own head with DeNiro trying to talk me down. Well, it was fun. Click..." --Goldstein (RIP)

What a difference a year makes. The two biggest picks this week were Cleveland and San Diego. Try going back in time twelve months and convincing anyone that they would be picked AT ALL this season, let alone as the two biggest picks of Week Twelve. Of course, one spelled success, the other spelled R.I.P.

"St. Louis in a lock. No doubter. Put it in the bank. Not that I really think that, I just want to make sure I get quoted if I lose." --Taylor

"And don't forget the RIP." --Taylor (RIP)

If you were saving St. Louis all season, you probably felt like a genius. Until the end of the Monday Night game.

"I don't want to talk about it." --Lund~K

These are the facts: Half of the remaining players made a losing pick. A third of them were eliminated from the hunt. They were: Baker, Clark, Corwin, Dickshot~J, Geyer, Goldstein, Gomez, Jaffe, Jensen~C, Jeser, Kennedy, Lund~M, Manoux~P, Meyers, Olson~R, Ortiz, Paulsen, Purtell, Ramsden, Roberts, Sullivan~J, Taylor, and Van Zandt.

These are more facts: No one is undefeated. The bright and shining star of Lund~K has lost a little twinkle this week. He now shares the heavens with nine other hungry contenders. Meanwhile, on the bottom of the heap, over 75% of the players have now been eliminated.

The standings...
00 LOSS -- 0 Supernovas
01 LOSS -- 10 Red Giants
02 LOSS -- 35 White Dwarfs
03 LOSS -- 156 Black Holes

Picks are due by Saturday. You can't pick the Thursday game. No repeat picks.

Everyone knows that, right? No repeat picks. That's really what makes this pool so interesting. And yet, two people made repeat picks last week. Both of their teams lost, so the agony isn't the same, but my advice to the rest of you who are still in: don't repeat a pick. Who knows? If either of the two had caught his mistake in time, he could still be with us today.
