2001 Football Pool Weekly Update

Week Eleven

"This is not a tough week. Next week is the tough week. This week is easy. There's lots of choices. You could throw a rock and pick a winner this week. Not like next week. No sir, this week is easy... Why is this so hard?!? Fine. I'll throw a rock. Denver. That was easy." --Schaffer~J

After a brief respite, we have returned to the 2001 season we've come to know and love. Green Bay and Denver losing at home. We should expect nothing less. With Green Bay's loss, Terry Bradshaw remains the winningest quarterback when starting at home. Sorry Brett Favre. You'll have to wait a few more years for your clever 10-10-220 commercials. And speaking of winningest...

"Oh how I hate to see the blue-green line stretch for one Lund~K. I can only say this... Mr. Favre clearly did not understand that they only needed a FIELD GOAL to continue the game. What was that ridiculous, desperate, college-bowl-game-lookin', wanting to be the hero, 'Hey! I've done this a million times' freakin' HAIL MARY?!? I am now, again, living amongst the masses. One of 19 with one loss. C'mon Lund. Join us. The water is warm. Ish." --Sullivan~N

If this little contest were being played with only one loss, we would now have our winner. We would have one, single, solitary clear winner of $1800. But, alas, it's not one-loss, it's three-losses. Mr. Lund is the winningest. So far.

And while the big boys toppled, the little boys did, too. I love when there's a pick change. Could mean genius. Could mean regret.

"Sent Tue, Nov 13: Hello der pool, Tampa Bay this week. Thanks.
"Sent Thu, Nov 15: Scratch that last pick, I pick S.F." --Manoux~C

vs.

"Redskins, no wait, what the hell am I thinking? They are my favorite team, but god they suck. GREEN BAY, definitely, GREEN BAY" --Uliana

There was a whole lot of losing going around this week in the football pool. 83 people took a loss. And if you like record-setting, here's one for you: We had the largest single-week elimination in the history of the pool: 49 players are no longer players.

"It was fun. Parity Schmarity! Go ahead and list my first 3 'locks' for next year: Detroit, Carolina, and Dallas. Good luck Pool survivors. Don't let Washington vote YOU off the island." --Andrew (RIP)

The standings...
00 LOSS -- 1 '72 Dolphins
01 LOSS -- 19 '85 Bears
02 LOSS -- 48 '98 Broncos
03 LOSS -- 133 '01 Lions

I know we've hit the home stretch when the dead outnumber the living. That happened in dramatic fashion this week. 68 remain. Who can navigate the last seven weeks to take home the money?

Picks are due by Saturday at dawn. Do not pick the Thanksgiving games. (The Lions are always dangerous in the Turkey Bowl anyway.)

Happy Thanksgiving!!!
