2000 Football Pool Weekly Update

Superbowl

We sit at the dawn of a new era. Behind us is the old tired National Football League. Within hours we will witness the birth of a brand new style of gridiron competition. It is known as the XFL, the X-treme Football League. Will the Baltimore Ravens be remembered as the last great Super Bowl Champion before the XFL took over a nation's appetite for MTV-style football? Is this the end of the NFL as we know it?

Unlikely. But it is the end of the football pool for 2000. The cards have been dealt, the hands have been played. Before the start of Sunday's Superbowl, seven contestants were still in the football pool. But like the Giants, they all just laid down on Sunday. All but one, that is. We have a winner, my friends in football. We have a bonafide, 100% approved, controversy-free winner of the 2000 Football Pool.

The standings...

1 ALIVE
130 DEAD

But first, other stats...

And this is how you did...

What follows is a list of who we lost and when we lost 'em. This is where you can still come out a winner in the pool. Simply find someone you know that got eliminated before you and send out a bragging email. It's not 13,000 dollars, but it'll feel good. If your name is NOT on this list, please contact me, you may have won the pool.

AND NOW, THE WINNER OF THE 2000 FOOTBALL POOL...

DAN WEENE

Dan Weene is the sole benefactor of the 2000 Football Pool. He claims a cool $1310. While the stock market is down, Dan Weene's fortunes are certainly up. Congratulations!!

For the rest of you, it's time to enjoy some pick-free smash-mouth football. Drink in the XFL and look toward the fall. Maybe next season your name will appear at the bottom of this list. Never give up the dream. (Unless you're Uliana, then I'd say you may have suffered one too many concusions to continue.)

See you in a few months. Picks are due Saturday, September 1, by DAWN. No exceptions.

Thanks for playing. I had a great time!!
