One-On-One's "major player" turned out to be a pretty with-it guy. Very precise. Very knowledgeable. And a talker. Wow! What a talker!
There was no one-on-one session. We went right to the scenes, that is, once he arrived. Ken ended up nearly an hour-and-a-half late for the 7 p.m. start time. Since I was 45 minutes late, I didn't notice it as much as the others. Anyway, Patty and I spent the time preparing our "two hookers" scene. In it, we were each trying to get the other to pay for sex. Not exactly typecasting, which Ken hinted at when we were done, but it really went fine.
Then he spoke. And spoke. And spoke. He talked about anything and everything. He's managed as many as 20 people, now he has 7. He looks into soap roles before he books his people. Is there a good plot line? Will he have at least a shred of decency? He told us to be upbeat. Be dedicated. Read the Daily Variety. Promote yourself. Sell yourself. Don't rely on an agent. If you do a play, make sure it's a good character for you. No use playing an 11-year-old Martian child. He'll represent people he feels would have made it without him. He talked a lot about pilot season and pilot presentations. He talked about the recession & the business. He said not to be nervous when you audition. (Actors have the least to lose.) And blah and blah and blah.
His biggest gripe was over actors who don't aggressively pursue their
careers, who would rather whine about the business then conquer it.
