November 27, 1991
[NOTE: When I wrote this down in my journal in 1991, I didn't know that A.C.T. Productions was a place that offered workshops, I just thought it was some random hoax. I am putting it here under workshops only in hindsight.]
I received this message on my service today:
Hello, John&ldots;Ah,&ldots;this is Karen, from A.C.T. Productions at 818/753-3317.
The reason why I'm calling you, John, is because you were referred to us, and I'm wondering, um&ldots;I'm inviting you to a seminar this Saturday from 10 to 12.
It is only for actors and actresses whose agents are not sending them out enough, or for people who are in between agents and would like to audition for soap opera, film, and television. This is for Under-5 and Day Play work only; it is not for extra work. So you're looking at working for such shows as General Hospital, Days of Our Lives.
If you're not union, it's a great way for you to get into the union.
Also, you will be able to showcase for top casting directors for some of your favorite shows like Jake and the Fatman, Matlock, Knot's Landing, just to name a few.
The seminar is a 58 dollar seminar plus a 2 dollar material fee. That's a 60 dollar total investment. That's it - a lot cheaper than taking an acting class and sending out 10 copies of your picture and resume.
You must call us to reserve a space at 818/377-9778, and we do need a picture and resume from you as soon as possible.
Keep in mind that this is for speaking parts only; it's not for extra work. If you're interested in extra work, please don't call us.
Again, the number is 818/377-9778. Looking forward to hearing from you, John. Ha-have a good day.
I knew it was bogus after she said my favorite shows included Matlock and Jake & the Fatman.
(If you're wondering why the phone number changed half-way through,
it's because I wrote down the first half of this call on November 27,
and then lost the rest. I received a nearly identical call in
February, and wrote down the rest. I guess they changed their number
in the interim.)
