Day 3 -- Wednesday, February 10
Rehearsal this morning... great. Run-through this afternoon... not so great.
Everything was humming along this morning. The scenes were looking good, the lines were tucked away in my brain, the jokes and bits were intact. This afternoon, however, the ship hit some rough waters. At 3pm today, we did a run-through for producers, the first such run-through. So all the support and positive feedback so far had been coming from Linda, the director, and... well, actually, mostly just from Linda. I'm not doing anything so fabulous on the show that anyone else was inspired to remark on my performance.
Today was different. We had a handful of producers and writers, scrutinizing their work and ours. Normally this is a nice chance to shine. It may have been so today, too, but shine I did not. I have mentioned before (complained? whined?) that I don't have that many jokes, per se, but today it went beyond that. It didn't feel like there was even much fun going on in my scenes. It might just be me, but I felt my stuff was dragging a bit.
So, now what? Keep working on it until it improves? Well, no. That's not the way a sitcom works. If the windshield wipers are sticking, sometimes you throw out the whole car. Tonight is a big night for Jim, the perfect boyfriend. His scenes can go one of two ways...
the scenes need more jokes, so we give Jim more jokes. That would be
the good way.
Tomorrow will tell.
