Day 1 -- Monday, February 8
Table read. 1pm. I get my most nervous before this event. I don't like taking on an entire room of new people, especially when they all know each other and are all happily going through their routine except for having to deal with the "new kid." Anyway, despite the fact that I always dread it, it also always seems to go fine. Nell Benjamin, a friend from school and now a writer on the show, was there so I didn't have to sit by myself and stare at my script while waiting for everyone to show up. That helped.
Once everyone did show up (except for the father, who, I think I heard later, was flying back from a weekend golf trip to Arizona) we proceeded with the reading. My three audition scenes were all there, they were all intact, and they were all I would be doing. Nothing extra, which is disappointing but usual. I still don't really have that much in the way of jokes. It's supposed to be a funny situation more than anything. Let's hope that's true when an audience is there.
After the read-through, we went over to the stage to rehearse. The father showed up but we lost Nikki, who is in every one of my scenes. We ran the first one with a stand-in but then Linda, the director, decided we might as well wait for the lady. That meant waiting until tomorrow. That meant I was free to go.
