Day 4 -- Friday December 5
Today went smoothly. Got to the studio by 11:45am. They ran our two scenes first, as usual. (Because of the kids in the other scenes, they had to run them later in the day.) Then I just relaxed in my trailer for a few hours. I brought a script to read and some papers from my desk that needed attention. Squeezed a nap into the afternoon's schedule. No high drama.
The final run-through started at about 4pm. We ran the show in order and our scenes were again solid. A problem began to emerge as we progressed from scene to scene, however. It became quite clear that Rob Schneider had yet to completely learn any of the scenes he was in. Hmmmmm. Didn't bode well for the evening's final shoot.
Dinner at 5:30. Then at 6:00, everyone assembled in the make-up room for touch-ups and a final read-through of the script. At 7:00pm the audience was settling into their seats. By 7:30pm the taping was underway.
My scenes went smoothly, as far as anyone else knew. For me, things were off. When I got to the coffee table, there was no pencil to keep the charades score, and then I goofed up one of my "penalty" lines. No one really noticed or cared, though. I asked props (Frank) for a pencil on the table and he apologized and put one there. The second time through the pencil was put to use and the original line was uttered. Success. The second scene went even smoother. The added line made it into the show. It's not really a laugh line, but it gives me a little more to do in the scene so that was cool.
And by 11pm, it was all over. It's a fun job, putting together a sitcom during the week. I wish I was going back in on Monday to work on the next episode. Of course, no one's going in on Monday on this show. They are on "hiatus" for the time-being, but may never come out of hiatus. It could be a repeat of the Almost Perfect debacle, appearing on thier last taped show and then having it never air. I just hope there's a sitcom out there with my name on it one of these days.
