Day Four -- Thursday, April 20 Updates from the set of Don't Ask...
|
I do get a note or two per day from the director, usually the same
thing: "Be officious. Be direct. Be all-business. Get right to
it." Today, before the network run-through, he did warn me that
John Goodman would get a laugh at a certain point in the scene and
that I should wait until the laugh dies down before proceeding. If I
were a cynical person, I might take that to be a pretty condescending
piece of advice. I've waited for many laughs to die down in the last
12 months, let alone the last 12 years. But he's under a lot of
pressure, I'm sure, and can't be blamed for wanting everything to be
perfect. (I did hold for the laugh during the run-through. It didn't
get as big a response as we thought it might. I did hold, though, dammit.)
Go on to Day 5.
