Shhh... Don't tell ABC, but the competition is sniffing at the door. This was an NBC pilot today. It's not illegal for me to audition for it. The producers of this show know that I am bound to ABC first and foremost. If they decide to put me in their show, it would be in 'second position,' which means that I would have to fulfill all of my responsibilities to ABC before I would be available. Given that, I don't know why any show would want a second position actor. You would think there's enough actors out there that you could find one that's completely available. Who knows? Maybe they're getting desparate on this show. For me, it's great. What could be better than a safety net if I don't get an ABC show, or I get one that doesn't get on the air? As March ticks away, I grow slightly more concerned that no ABC show is going to find the Ducey thing fits into their scheme. No need to panic yet, but it's a matter of concern nonetheless.
So, the audition. I thought it went great. Mostly. I was given a note in between the two scenes. They told me a little about the style of the character. Unfortunately, I sort of felt I was doing that already. So they missed it. I tried to punch it up a little for the second scene and maybe I did. It was funny. They were both funny scenes and went very well. But will they take a chance on a 'second position' actor with a limited track record? That's a tall order.
