I have known Janet for many years and she has been supportive about calling me in for roles here and there. Today's part was within my scope, but as with most drama auditoins, it was hard for me to gauge how it was going or how it went.
At first it was good. We read the scene once and Janet seemed happy. She gave me a few notes and we tried it again. She took her time to make sure certain parts were punched up, others parts were played down, everything was falling into place. Her partner, Megan, appeared to be readying a camera to tape the scene. Janet gave me one last note and then they thanked me for coming. That was odd. I expected that, with all the note-giving and camera-readying, I would then be put on tape. It was as if we were all systems go for the taping and then Megan slipped Janet the veto signal. The end came swiftly and suddenly and I made the long drive home.
