So amidst all this pilot auditioning comes a message from Allison Jones on my voice mail which goes as follows, "Hey, John, it's Allison Jones calling. I want to bring you in to play a baseball player, it's a guest part, a guest-star part, in a pilot that shoots next week that Jim Burrows is directing."

So what's the interesting information in that baby...

• Allison is calling me for something. That's great that she takes the time to think of me for stuff. It helps a lot to have people like that on my side out there.
  

• She is calling me at home. Not great publicity on my part in letting people know who my new agent is.
  
• "I want to bring you in to play a baseball player." Not to read for a baseball player, but to play a baseball player. Maybe I've got this job already.
  
• A guest-star part. That's great. It's not quite the career-making series regular role we're shooting for these days, but a nice-sized, juicy guest-star role, even on a pilot that may never air, would still be fun to do.
  
• Jim Burrows is directing. Big time sitcom director. Nothing wrong with that.

So what went down this morning over at CBS Radford in Studio City, California? Well, neither Allison nor Jim Burrows were around, but her assistant and the show's producer were running the show. My "guest-star" part was quite tiny and really only about six lines. I was definitely not the only person reading for it. A young gentleman who seemed very baseball playerish was wrapping up as I arrived and there were bunches of people reading for a smattering of parts. But it is all quite moot at this point (nearly 11pm) because I am sure I would have heard during the day today. So no co-starring work to hustle back and forth from during this pilot season craziness. Maybe just as well.
