He's blond. He's preppie. He's "slightly effete." Yes, he's Fletcher, the Yale graduate who is forced to be the assistant to Carly, brand-new Vice President who yesterday was working in the mailroom. Now that's a sitcom. It's a cross between David Spade on Just Shoot Me and the assistant on Veronica's Closet. There's even reference to the fact that Fletcher is likely gay but won't admit it. So nothing ground-breaking there.
In the audition scenes, we see Fletcher at his bitchiest, his first meeting with Carly. I played it quite bitchy the first time through and Sally Stiner liked it but didn't love it. We tried a few different things but I felt like it was just getting worse and I don't think I gave the impression of being very good at making adjustments. She finally decided that she would give me a callback and left me with the advice, "He takes jabs at Carly but we still have to like him." Ay, there's the rub.
