Audtion report--

On occasion, when you read for a part, the casting director will provide sides for more then one scene, and then when you get there, they say, "We'll only be reading the first scene today." But then, what also usually happens is that the people who suck only read the first scene. If that first scene goes well, however, you then hear, "OK, let's go ahead and do the second scene, too, and see how that sounds." The last time I read for Lisa Mionie, I got the hook after the first scene. One would have to assume now that it wasn't because I sucked, but that she had decided I wasn't right for the part, because I was back before her for this pilot.

The show is another vehicle for Andrew (ne' no Dice) Dice Clay. And despite the continuing name change, does this man bear ANY resemblance to Roseanne? Who keeps thinking he's going to be some great sitcom star? Well, I guess I would have if they hired me for his show. Anyway...

We were given three scenes, oddly enough, and told when we got there that we'd only be doing scene two. Fine. I walked into the audition room and beheld probably the LARGEST group of people I have ever seen assembled at either an audition or callback. I'd say there were 14 people around a long, narrow table that really only held about 9 per side. There was room in the office for about 1 1/2 more people so I squeezed in and did my little scene two. When I finished, the guy running the show said, "Why don't we have you read the next scene, too?" Right on. I read it with the guy they had already cast as the other guy. It went well; I got a really good laugh at the big joke spot. And when I finished, the head guy looked at my resume and said, "You've worked with Dice. What did you think of him?" to which I replied, "He was nice to me." That got a warm chuckle from most of the gang and a "Good answer" from someone in the sea of people who has probably felt his wrath. So things felt good!

But I have already received reports of my demise. The show is presently rehearsing the pilot, so they needed a ROBERT to step in immediately. The word came back tonight that they thought I did well but they were going to go in a different direction. One day that direction will lead to me, won't it?
