Audition report--

5:30 p.m. Time for my first of three USC auditions in one night. This one was the first one not to take place in the George Lucas Building. Instead, I went to "Flute Tower", a dorm which Patty feared was, in fact, a freshman dorm.

As the director met me at the door, Patty's suspicions seemed to be confirmed. She was little. I followed her upstairs to meet her assistant - he was little. So, I was being interviewed/auditioned by Nora Connell and Jeremy Nye. It just didn't seem right.

The interview portion included the questions: Tell us about yourself and your interest in acting. How do you feel about comedy vs. drama? Why are you doing student films? If you are cast, and you accept, will you be committed to the project? It all struck me as "pseudo-professional," and it was amusing to watch them deal with the camera and conversation, in a quasi-professional manner that didn't quite cut it.

The audition portion of the evening was even worse. First, they gave me a football and asked me to play with it. So I did. Yippee. Then, I was instructed to do any one minute solo-improv of anything I wanted. Oh my God. So, I did my end of a phone call with the folks, mostly saying, "No I haven't done that yet." and "I'm doing that next week." etc. etc. You get the idea.

And, finally, I was to be walking cheerily down the street when I witness an accident, then go over to help out. This was allowed to go on entirely too long and ended up being quite ridiculous.

So audition number one was not cool. It did not seem like a good project to become involved in.
