Audition report--

Saturday morning. Up at 9. Gotta get down to USC a little before 11:00, which is my audition time. I'd like to think I learned my lesson. And I did! I reached USC's "George Lucas Building" at about 10:45 and sat down with the sides. Everything seemed to be going fine.

There was a 30ish woman waiting with her three kids. They were jumping on and climbing on and crawling around the furniture acting out their own scenes with a couple of super-hero action figures and a toy truck. (I think the bad guy got drenched by some super-power water gun.)

She went in at a little before 11. I knew I had some time still. I went over the 10 or 12 lines a few more times. Everything seemed to be going fine.

About 10 minutes later, the woman emerges and I go in. By this time, I have the lines pretty well memorized and am ready to do it. The director had left the room, so I spoke with the infamous Antonia, with whom I had played a drawn-out game of phone tag during the week. She told me it was for 480, and some story about how the class chose projects, but I didn't quite follow it. She explained the set-up. Everything seemed to be going fine.

The director entered, mentioned the shooting dates, and I did the first scene. She gave some direction and I did it again. Then, the second scene. Did it once, got direction, did it again. And that was a wrap. Everything seemed to have went "blah!" I don't know what it was, but it felt lame. Maybe I was concentrating too hard on remembering the lines, or I let myself get too distracted by Antonia's line readings opposite me. For some reason, I wasn't in it, I didn't nail it. Maybe it just wasn't meant to be. Who knows? (Phil Jordan knows, but that's a whole different story.)
