Ah, Dan FInnerty. My first exposure to Dan Finnerty came way back during Zack & Reba in 1998. Dan's wife Kathy was in the movie with me and he would visit us in Utah on the set on occasion.
Back in Los Angeles, I took in a couple of shows of Dan Finnerty and the Dan Band. Dan covers songs by women, for women, and about women... and sung by Dan. Since those early days, his band has built a cult following and has appeared on many TV shows.
So the next logical step is a sitcom based on a guy that sings songs about women. That's Hollywood Television 101. The Dan Finnerty show is about a guy who (by the end of the pilot) takes over his mom's cabaret act, which is, of course, songs by women, for women, about women, sung by Dan.
My role is the negative, conservative cousin who poo-poos Dan and his
irresponsible life. I gave the scene two readings today. The first
was fine, I got a note, and the second was a lot better. It would be
fun to do a show with Dan, he's a great guy. I hope he can pull off
the women's songs bit for 5-7 seasons. What a gig!!
