Audition report--

It begins.

Pilot Season 2003 is officially underway. Is it too much to hope for that this audition could be it? There must be a person or two out there who reads for their first pilot of the season and gets it. Then they're done. No more auditions, just waiting to shoot their pilot. What a great pilot season that would make!! I could do that, right? This could be it.

Although looking at last year, I read for 27 pilots before I got one, so it is unlikely.

This was a good start to the whole thing, though. It's always hard to get past the first one, especially since I have only been on a handful of auditions during the past few months. One could even argue that I haven't done any comedy in that span. So it was nice to see two friendly faces upon entering the room. Marco Pennette, who wrote both the Caroline in the City and the Conrad Bloom I did, and Jamie Widdoes, who directed Sun Gods this past pilot season. That helped me relax. The scene went well. It was a little tricky in the middle, because I was reading with the star of the show and he put a little more effort into his reading than the average casting director does. It was good, it's just something you don't usually prepare for.

So I felt good. Even if I am starting 0-for-1, it was a good start.
