In the midst of a two-pilot battle between Dexter Prep and the Greg Giraldo Project, a third pilot has thrown its hat into the ring. This one is a project by the Everybody Loves Raymond people and is basically a re-invention of the Mary Tyler Moore Show. It's a woman in the city, female roommate, mother very present. She takes a job with an irascible boss and a collection of amusing co-workers.
The good news? It's very funny. Very well-written. And it's got a hot production team behind it. CBS would like to keep them happy to thank them for their Raymond success. It will probably get on the air this fall.
The bad news? The role could be a great one, but in the pilot, DAVE has one scene and six lines. That's not a lot to base the next 5 years of my life around.
I did well at the audition. I ended up reading for both DAVE and MAX,
but DAVE seems to be the more appropriate character. I would still
need to read for the executive producer before I could go forward in
the process. If Dexter Prep goes well, though, that may never happen.
