I had a busy day today with three total auditions in a 5 hour span.
And when I left the offices at NBC after reading the two audition
scenes, I felt like I had been both good and bad the entire time.
Part of me felt like I was really right for this role and I could hit
a lot of the jokes. But when I was in there, they didn't really seem
to be clicking. I don't know why. Perhaps it was partly because there
were only two people in the room, Debby and Steve Koren, and neither
one of them was laughing. Debby was busy reading the scene with me,
so I wouldn't have expected her to be yukking it up, but of all
people to expect laughs from, the writer himself is usually at the
top of the list. I got the impression, though, that Steve was more
interested in the location of his chair in the room than my reading
of Bennett. So I have to assume he wasn't exactly touched by my
performance. I thought it was solid, though not so well-received.
Again, I left there feeling like, "Hey, I did it!" and
"Hey, I blew it." at the same time.
