February 20. First audition. I read for the role of CLAY. My agent had submitted me for ROYCE, even pushed for me as ROYCE. They wanted to see me as CLAY. They told my agent that someone already has a deal with The WB and they were a shoe-in for ROYCE, so reading for it would be useless. In I went for CLAY.
I finished my reading and she looked at me and said, "Why don't you try reading ROYCE?"
I went out and looked at the ROYCE scene and came back in and read with her. "That's more you, isn't it?" she asked. I agreed that it was.
February 27. First callback. I read for the role of ROYCE. There is a roomful of producers this time and they seem very happy with my ROYCE. They laughed a lot and I think I heard Tracy say as I was leaving, "That was fun." I like to hear that.
March 1. Today. Second callback. Same scenes. Same people. I see my friend Rob outside waiting to read for the same role and his agent had told him it was a "work session" to get the scenes ready for the studio and network tests. That's an encouraging thought.
And that is what it turns out to be. I read the first scene, received a couple of notes and then read it again. Then we did the second scene, I got some notes on the second half, and we did that part again. Lots of nice laughs, and though nobody said it this time, it was fun again.
Next? I got the call this evening that they are setting up a studio
test for me. That's good. That's the penultimate step to actually
getting the job. It is a concern that someone still lurks out their
who has a deal and will have a leg-up for getting this role, but at
least I will have a shot at it.
