Callback report--

Back at the end of January I read for STU, the lead in Blind Men. The role could have been fun to play. The story alternates between his life at home with his wife and his life at work (selling blinds). I thought I did a very good job with the original audition but I never heard anything.

A week or so ago, sources reported that French Stewart had been cast in the lead. Part of the problem with auditioning early in pilot season is that the bigger names haven't commited to anything yet. It's tough to beat out the French Stewarts of the world. Then as January turns into February, and February into March, the pool does dwindle.

And so I was back to read for the show, but for a smaller role. French Stewart can't play every role, now can he? I actually had to do the same audition scene, just playing the other character. While I remember there being some good jokes in the scene, a quick re-read made it clear that the jokes were all STU's, not JIM's. I tried to find some funny bits, though, amidst the blandness and they seemed to appreciate my efforts. Was it too much, though? You can't be funnier than French Stewart, you know.
