I was prepared to pass on this film. I had another audition today, plus the holidays are coming up, plus pilot season is starting early, plus it's a low-budget project with B-level names. I figured I would read it, hate it, and move on.
Loved it.
It was a great script. The plot is not cutting edge, but the writing is good, the characters are interesting, it kept me entertained and engaged. This movie could be very fun to do.
The problem? I don't usually book movies, whether I like them or not.
I had one 2-page scene today to make an impression. One two-page
scene for a big role in the film. I gave it my all, as I always do.
We did the scene twice, the second time on camera, so I at least made
that cut. But it's on film when I seem to lose it. I blame much of my
commercial audition failure on the same thing. When I get put on tape
for consideration I fare much worse than if the deciding parties are
in the room. The only successful taped audition I can remember was Deep
Impact. I hope I can add Tailspin to that short list.
