These are some of my favorite auditions. They call in a bunch of people and after each person reads, he or she waits around until everyone is done. Then the casting director emerges and tells everyone to go home but for one lucky soul. That person then goes to work for the rest of the day (and usually the rest of the week).
Also saw a couple of friendly faces at the audition today. J.P. Manoux of Sitcomrades fame, and an old acquaintance, Tim Conlon. We were all suffering out the waiting game together. It was actually pretty fun.
The scene was only a couple of pages and slightly challenging to make funny. In the room, the writers laughed at just about every line. That can be, and was, slightly disconcerting. I knew that not all of the lines were funny. In fact, I am come up with a sun total of no lines being actually funny. So I tried to play to the laughs, give them a little more on the goofy side. They kept on laughing. Lord knows why.
They called two gentlemen back in before letting everyone go. Those two gentlemen were then retained and put right to work. J.P. and I left. Tim Conlon got to stay on a make some money working with ex-Kramer.
(Feedback: "We went with two guys that looked alike.")
