Callback report--

I will confess that I was surprised to be called back for In Arts L.A. I don't know why, I guess because I didn't think my "type" (preppie) was right for the show. But, there I was this morning. I arrived 10 minutes before my 11 o'clock call, only to see the same mass of people hanging out in the hall.

By 11:02, however, the assistant director emerged from the studio and asked, "Is John Ducey here?" And, dammit, I was. He paired me up with my co-host, Christine Brown, and told us to chat and acquaint ourselves with each other. And, dammit, we did.

The two of us went in to read about 10 minutes later, but ended up waiting for the director to deal with the dance audition for about 20 more minutes. Finally, we read through the script for the director, he said she had nice vocal tone, that we looked good together, that it sounded good, and to hang around until everyone had gone, and he was going to put pairs together to see how they looked.

And so we chatted. A lot. We didn't get out of there until 1 p.m., so I guess, total, Christine and I were talking for about an hour-and-a-half. She seems very nice, and smart, and pretty. It was a very nice Sunday morning. This time I did get her phone number, and hopefully I'll see her again. She at least seemed like she could be an excellent friend to have. And I can use a new friend or two these days.

Well, before I get too personal, it is now 12 hours since our reading and the phone has yet to ring. Since the first rehearsal is tomorrow, it looks grim.

The damn director looked right at me when he said he would call those who made it. That got my hopes up. Now they're steadily coming down.

STUFF:

Go on to the next Callback.
