Audition report--

I can't explain it. I have no excuse for it. I can think of no reason for it. But it happened. And it was stupid.

The set-up is as follows... three guys sit sit a bar watching TV. In walks another guy who speaks but we all motion to him to keep quiet. On the TV is the story of an escaped ape. After a blurb from the TV, the three gentlemen speak in turn. The lines are as follows:

My line is the second line. "Why'd he run away?" Easy enough. We start. The other guy walks in, he speaks, we motion him to be quiet, we listen to the blurb, we say our lines. I say "Why'd he run away?" It's magical. What an easy job this is.

But the guy who entered the scene didn't realize that the ape was actually at the bar next to us. Whoops. So the casting director rewinds the tape so that he can tape over that version of the scene. Have to do it again. We start. The other guy walks in, he speaks, we motion him to be quiet, we listen to the blurb, we say our lines. Well, actually the first guy says his line and then I say "Where would he go?" Those of you who have been paying attention will recognize that as the third guy's line, not my line at all. But it came out of my mouth and to be honest sounded quite natural and appropriate. It's likely they wouldn't even notice I had said the wrong line. That all changed when the third guy went ahead and said the line himself. Two "Where would he go?"s back to back. It'll be hard to slip that by anyone.

And so another commercial audition goes the way of all the commercial auditions in the past five years of my life.
